Ripple Effect

My grandmother used to make me promise to think of her every time I looked at whatever gift it was she had just given me. There were so many little trinkets, jokes, kitschy cards, profound insights, loving caresses, belly laughs, heirlooms,…

She spent a lifetime trying to create meaningful memories, and so many of them just disappeared – incorporated into the unconscious fabric of who I am.

But a few of the littlest, almost thoughtless gestures stay.

Some little rings, a collection of stones, and a rolled up little love note. But in the smallest remnants are conjured all the memories I promised to have and then some.

It is a reminder to walk though life mindfully.
